Partners in Missions

The first sermon I preached on Mother’s Day in 1982 was taken from 1 Samuel 1, the story of Hannah, who, for many years, could not give birth. “Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life” (1 Samuel 1:10-11). Because of her humble desire to become a mother, God miraculously gave Hannah a son, Samuel, who became the last judge and a great prophet of Israel. Hannah fulfilled her promise to God and placed Samuel, around three years old, under the mentorship of Eli, the priest.

I do not know of any role in life more important than that of a parent. I saw a documentary on a Polish woman who helped hundreds of Jewish children find safety during Hitler’s attempt to kill all Jews. She approached Jewish leaders and encouraged them to entrust her with their children, placing them in the homes of Polish families to protect their lives from the gas chambers. The most touching scenes were of mothers handing their children over to someone else, fully aware that they might never see them again. Some of these mothers never saw their children take their first steps, never heard them speak their first words, never watched them go to school, or play with other kids in the park. Those of us who had loving and caring parents are truly fortunate.

One question that Partners in Missions often receives is, “How can I adopt an orphan from Guatemala?” Our response is, “You cannot.” The U.S. government stopped adoptions from Guatemala many years ago, even though there are 500,000 children in the country without families to love and care for them. The only way to support these children is through your prayers and financial contributions to the orphanages supported by Partners in Missions. If you would like to help, please contact partnersinmissions97@gmail.com or visit www.partners-in-missions.org. You can provide a child with love and support for a suggested monthly donation of $50.

Mimi’s House welcomed two babies last month. Baby “E” was handed over to an officer at a hospital gate by his mother when he was two months old, stating that she could not care for him. Baby “A” was born to a 15-year-old due to sexual abuse. The mother was rescued and is now living in an orphanage. Her baby was sent to Mimi’s House when he was three days old. Both babies will be well cared for at Mimi’s House until a permanent home is found for them.

One of the primary goals of the New Dawning Christian School is to assist students in setting goals for their future. One method they use to achieve this is by having students from various grades create a PROYECTO DE VIDA, or Life Project.

In this project, students identify their strengths and weaknesses, explore potential careers, and reflect on their personal relationships. This exercise is valuable for helping students develop a vision for their future, especially as they navigate a world that is vastly different from the one in which their families grew up. 20 years ago, students primarily considered careers such as teaching, medicine, farming, or accounting. Today, they are aware of many more options, including engineering, architecture, and psychology.

Your support is crucial in helping them make important decisions about their futures.
